This project aims to explore the notion of the third culture within the African diaspora in NYC. People born and raised outside their origin country often face an identity crisis and a problem of representation. Am I my culture’s keeper? intends to shed light on this feeling that can be experienced by the younger generation, not only to open the discussion on this topic together but also to highlight the initiatives in place in the “Big Apple” to navigate more serenely through this journey of self-discovery.
Le projet a pour but d’explorer la notion de « troisième culture » au sein de la diaspora africaine à New York. Les personnes nées et élevées en dehors de leur pays d’origine font souvent face à une crise identitaire et à des problèmes de représentation. Suis-je le gardien de ma culture? entend mettre en lumière ce sentiment que peuvent ressentir les jeunes générations, non seulement pour ouvrir ensemble le débat sur ce sujet, mais par la même occasion mettre en lumière les initiatives en place dans la « Big Apple » pour naviguer plus sereinement dans ce voyage de découverte de soi.

Oral Historian, storyteller, researcher
Gloria is an oral historian, storyteller and researcher, trying to navigate between different worlds and cultures. Congolese from her parents, but born in France, where she has lived her whole life, she is working on a project exploring the notion of the third culture within the African diaspora in New York City. Am I my culture’s keeper? aims to shed light on the challenges and triumphs of young African diaspora individuals in navigating their identity and finding their place in the world.

Gloria est une histoirienne orale, narratrice, chercheuse, essayant de naviguer entre différents mondes et cultures. Congolaise d’origine, mais née et élévée en France où elle a vécue toute sa vie, son project explore la notion de « troisième culture » au sein de la diaspora africaine dans la ville de New York. Suis-je le gardien de ma culture? vise à mettre en lumière les défis et réussites de la jeune diaspora africain naviguant entre plusieurs identités et dans la recherche de leur place dans le monde.
